Round Table Discussions

Where do you go for ideas or help with your eLearning?  There are many great blogs and sites devoted to improving the value of eLearning in our trainings and business.  This program focuses on four experts in the field right in our very own city, showcasing some topics relevant to anyone new or old in the eLearning industry.

Topics covered include:

Storyboarding: Michael Merritt | Senior eLearning Developer at HDR

Video Alternatives: Dave Kipling | UP

Content Review: Heather Falkner | UP

Interactivity: Melissa Turner | Adobe Captivate Developer 

This interactive session will start with a brief round robin overview of each of the topics by the speakers followed by an open forum to allow opportunity for questions and a deeper dive into the material after the presentations depending on your area of interest.

Presenter Bios

Michael Merritt: Michael Merritt has been involved in Education Technologies for fifteen years and has specialized in E-Learning for the last eight years. At the BryanLGH College of Health Sciences he was the lead in the design of classroom technologies for a 75,000 square foot expansion, and taught two freshman level courses. In 2004 Michael joined The Nebraska Medical Center as the E-Learning Coordinator Serving 6600+ active users. Michael administered the E-Learning initiative including the administration of the Learning Management System and the design, development, and technical support of courses offered.

Michael currently serves as HDR’s Senior eLearning Developer in the training and organizational development department. His key role is the design and development of web based training delivered via HDR University, an employee development resource comprised of over 200 instructor-led, online and webinar delivered courses. In addition to leading HDR’s eLearning initiatives, he has delivered services to a range of HDR clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Most recently he has focused his design efforts on the Sustainability training initiative for HDR’s staff that includes Sustainability Services.

Dave Kipling: David Kipling is equal parts teacher and technologist with interests and expertise in areas like Studio Arts, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and even Psychology. David's experience with online instruction began in higher education, assisting faculty with their synchronous and asynchronous distance learning courses. He has transitioned into the corporate world, designing eLearning courses for area businesses - using time and motion to tell memorable stories.  David holds a MS in IT Management from Creighton University and a Bachelors in MIS from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. 

Heather Falkner:  Heather Falkner has worked at Union Pacific Railroad for 15 years. The last 8 years have been in the area of training and implementation support for a variety of enterprise and departmental systems. Heather enjoys working with her internal customers who sponsor the applications, the development teams that build them and the analysts that drive the requirements. The last 5 years she has worked on a large scale system wide project to replace a legacy mainframe system with web technologies. This objective is being achieved primarily through elearning courses developed internally. She holds an Associates in Electronics Engineering from ITT Tech, a Bachelors in Business Administration from Bellevue University, and an MBA from Bellevue University.

Melissa Turner: Melissa Turner is the manager and trainer at Easel Solutions. Easel Solutions is an award-winning Adobe Enterprise Partner and Microsoft Certified Learning Solutions Partner providing organizations with the technical knowledge to deliver engaging web, mobile and eLearning content. Melissa is an Adobe Certified Captivate Instructor and enjoys helping people discover all of the creative interactions they can incorporate into their eLearning projects.
