ASTD Nebraska Presents:
ISPI Human Performance Technology Model

Presenter: Todd Conkright

An intentional investment-based approach to performance improvement uses humor, humility, harmony, and honor (the 4 H’s) to positively move people and processes toward closing the gap between what is and what ought to be. Building on the foundation of asking positive, powerful questions (appreciative inquiry) and the rigor of human performance technology, investment-based performance improvement recognizes achievement and draws out the excellence that is hiding in the gap. Investment-based performance improvement, using the 4 H’s as the philosophical starting point, sparks a positive change in the workplace. When you raise others up, you go a little higher yourself, but then you realize that isn’t really what it’s all about after all.

The program provides:

  • An understanding of the principles of Appreciative Inquiry and asking positive, powerful questions
  • A worksheet for developing positive powerful questions
  • An overview of the ISPI human performance technology model
  • A method to blend these two concepts into an investment-based approach to performance improvement
  • A flow-chart for analyzing performance deficiencies (based on the Mager Pipe Model)
